{"id":932,"date":"2019-03-13T05:47:07","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T10:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northpotomacnews.org\/?p=932"},"modified":"2019-03-14T05:47:36","modified_gmt":"2019-03-14T10:47:36","slug":"industry-wireless-bill-tabled-for-interim-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northpotomacnews.org\/?p=932","title":{"rendered":"Industry Wireless Bill Tabled for &#8220;Interim Study&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Maryland House Economic Affairs Committee voted on March 11, 2019 to refer<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MD\/bill\/HB654\/2019\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><u><a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MD\/bill\/HB654\/2019\"><strong>HB 654<\/strong><\/a><\/u>\u00a0for &#8220;interim study.&#8221; Bills referred for interim study will receive\u00a0<em>no further action<\/em>\u00a0before the next session &#8211; meaning that HB 654 is effectively dead &#8211; at least for now.<\/p>\n<p>MC4T had strongly opposed this Bill and testified along with a broad based coalition of citizens groups from all around Maryland, and also both the Maryland Municipal League (MML) and the Maryland Association of Counties (MaCo).<\/p>\n<p>This committee action follows February 21 hearing\u00a0held by <a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/Webmga\/frmMain.aspx?pid=sponpage&amp;tab=subject6&amp;id=davis+d&amp;stab=01\">Chairman Dereck Davis<\/a> on HB 654 which carries formal title of &#8220;<em>Wireless Facilities &#8211; Installation and Regulation.<\/em>&#8221; This bill was commonly referred to in this latest legislative session as the &#8220;<em>industry bill<\/em>&#8221; reflecting its actual authorship.\u00a0 (County Executive Marc Elrich appeared at the hearing to testify AGAINST state pre-emption contained within HB 654 and referred to the County&#8217;s recent actions on\u00a0<strong><em>local solutions <\/em><\/strong>to wireless regulation.)<\/p>\n<p>Del.
